When H-E-B moved its headquarters to San Antonio in 1985, it left behind a three-story, 40,000-square-foot green-and-pink accented building at the corner of Buffalo and North Upper Broadway streets. The building sat vacant until purchased by Lester E. Culpepper in 2000. It has since changed hands and futures until it was recently purchased by Orion Drilling Co., of Corpus Christi.

Orion Drilling drills oil wells. The company promises to provide customers with steel structures for drilling and well-servicing operations “that meet or exceed customer and recognized standards and requirements,” reads it policy statement at oriondrilling.com. The company is headquarterd at 674 Flato Road in Corpus Christi.

The H-E-B building will provide office space for the company which is expanding its fabrication operations at Bear Lane and Navigation Blvd. The offices moved out of Bear Lane will soon open on Upper Broadway. It should take about three months to demolish and rebuild the interior, according to company owner Wayne Squires.
