COVID-19 vaccines available at Buc Days
Admission is free for Buc Days visitors who opt to get their COVID-19 vaccination — also free — at the entrance gate, the Buccaneer Commission announced Monday, April 26. Also, the Buc Days Carnival will be set up in a new location this year, just outside of the American Bank Center Arena, 1901 N. Shoreline Blvd, Corpus Christi.
“Buc Days is joining the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic,” according to the news release.
The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District will set up vaccine clinics in tents outside of the two Buc Days gates. Anyone ages 18 and older can receive a shot of the Moderna vaccine before going through the gates.
Vaccination hours are 5-8 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon to 4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. Buc Days begins Thursday, April 29, with the opening of the carnival and runs through Sunday, May 9.
Without the shot, admission is $6 for adults and $4 for military with an ID and seniors ages 65 and older.
Children under 36 inches tall get in free. Admission for those over the height limit is $4.
All-you-can-ride wristbands are $30 each. On Mother’s Day, May 9, all-you-can-ride wristbands will be $15.
With the new setup, all major events will be in the same location this year, including the Wings Over South Texas Blue Angels Air Show on May 1-2. The every-other-year air show is usually held at Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi.
The two-week event opens with a splash when the mayor walks the plank in Corpus Christi Bay at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 29. The best place to watch is from the seawall across from Omni Hotel at 900 N. Shoreline Blvd.
On Friday, the PBR Buc Days Chute Out begins the first of two nights in the American Bank Center Arena at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, Wings Over South Texas takes to the air from 1-3 p.m. for the first of its two-day shows (both at the same time).
Also on Sunday, May 2, the Navy Army Night Parade and Parade Pachanga will begin at 6 p.m., including the crowning of the Buc Days King and Queen. The Junior Parade was canceled for a second year but should be back in 2022, Buc Day officials said.
Rodeo-qualifying events join the fun Monday-Wednesday, May 3-5, all beginning at 9 a.m. at the RMB Fairgrounds in Robstown.
On Thursday, May 6, Rodeo Corpus Christi opens for four nights at the American Bank Center Arena. Shows start at 7 p.m. each night (except Sunday).
On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings, come early for the Mutton Bustin’ and the Stick Horse Barrel Racing from 5-6:30 p.m. On Sunday, May 9, those two kid-friendly events will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. The rodeo begins at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
