More Oil and Gas in Corpus Christi Pipelines
Three major NuStar Energy projects are bringing more
Permian Basin oil and gas to Corpus Christi for export. The San Antonio-based company announced Wednesday, September 4, completion of a 30-inch pipeline now moving crude oil eight miles from Taft to NuStar’s Corpus Christi terminal.
The company is also building storage in Corpus Christ for an additional 600,000 barrels of oil and gas. The new tanks will bring the company’s total storage capacity to 3.9 million barrels.
“We are very excited about the continued growth of our South Texas Crude System, which is once again experiencing capacity volume at near the historically high levels we saw in the Eagle Ford’s heyday in 2015,” NuStar president/CEO Brad Barron said in a statement. “We expect continued growth for both Permian and Eagle Ford barrels going forward.”
The third completed project is now moving refined products into Northern Mexico. The newly expanded Valley Pipeline System in South Texas increases the system’s capacity to supply refined products from Corpus Christi to the Rio Grande Valley and Northern Mexico. Expansion of the system has nearly doubled capacity to 90,000 barrels per day from 45,000 barrels per day.
That and other projects are aimed at moving refined products from Corpus Christi and Three Rivers into Northern Mexico where demand is high.
“We are pleased that we were able to utilize and expand existing assets to help address the supply imbalance in Northern Mexico that is expected to continue growing and exceeding that country’s infrastructure,” Barron said. “It’s an amazing coincidence that all three of these projects, each of which has been years in the making, all began moving volumes within 24 hours of each other,” “Each project is backed by long-term commitments with strong customers, and completing these projects on time and on budget is a testament to the outstanding work of our employees and contractors. And we look forward to even more growth opportunities in the future.”
