Under new ownership for more than a year, Schlitterbahn Corpus Christi now has a new name and a new mission. After $8 million in upgrades, the Padre Island waterpark has been rebranded as Waves Resort Corpus Christi featuring Schlitterbahn Waterpark. With a new look and several new features, the resort plans grand opening ceremonies May 15 at 14252 Commodores Drive.

“It’s an all-in-one entertainment destination for folks,” Lisa Marie Barocas, resort spokesperson, told reporters.

New features include a dog park, a putting green and driving range, and a 42-foot outdoor movie screen with swim-up bar.

“You get to float around in your inner tube and watch a movie at the same time,” Barocas said. “How cool is that?”

The resort’s restaurant has been renovated and renamed as well. Eats Epicurea, formerly known as Veranda, serves food daily until 10 p.m. Jazz brunches on Sundays are a speciality along with a large wine selection. The restaurant and bar also serve speciality drinks, local microbrews, and espressos. Design is mid-century contemporary and features a great room and fireplace. Dogs are welcome on the casual wrap-around dining patio.

A ride damaged by Hurricane Harvey in August 2017 has been torn down and will be replaced soon by a zip line, a ropes course, and a rock-climbing wall. Also coming soon is a gaming lounge and e-sports training facility.

“We’re pumping more money into this facility — we’re not going anywhere,” Barocas said. “We want this to be a place where you can come back, become a member, have a good time, bring your family and friends.”

The park is now open. Follow progress on its Facebook page.
