Vick’s Famous Hamburgers plans grand opening

Have one of these inside there! George Pollakis, owner of Vick’s Famous Hamburgers, plans a grand opening for his new location (right next door to his old location) sometime this month.

The wait is just about over. Vick’s Famous Hamburgers is almost ready to move into its new location, right next door to where some of the best burgers in Corpus Christi have been served up for the past 42 years. As owner George Pollakis oversees putting the finishing touches on the new building, he is also planning a grand opening week sometime near the end of this month.

“Inside, our restaurant can seat up to 80 persons,” Pollakis said. “We will have an open floor plan, not only for dining but also for the kitchen. The customers can see our staff preparing the meals, and the staff can see one another so they can communicate more clearly.”

The new building facing Port Avenue stands out with its ivory exterior, arch doorways, and bright red garage doors. The ample parking and spacious double drive-through accommodates multiple cars.

“Outside, we will have a double drive-through to shorten the waiting time, reduce frustration, and process orders more efficiently,” Pollakis said. “We also have patio dining outside, but if the weather gets bad, we actually have garage doors that we can pull down to enclose the space so customers can still enjoy their meal in comfort.”

The restaurant can also be reserved for private parties on days it is not open, such as Sunday. Catering for private events is also available.

Pollakis is excited to continue his family legacy in creating more business on the westside, which he said does not have as many dining options as other areas of town.

“Forever, people have been highlighting the Southside of Corpus Christi, but if you think about, the westside is the place where people come to make their money and work,” he said. “This area is where the oil industry, the port, government, and industrial businesses are.”

Pollakis makes it his mission to provide delicious, one-of-a-kind burgers and more on his extensive menu for those westside customers as well as anyone else who just wants a great place to eat.

“Our community as a whole is comprised of small businesses,” Pollakis said. “When you start to think about it, you’ll realize how many small businesses are out there making a difference. I am proud to be one of them.”

Vick’s Famous Hamburgers is located at 2211 Leopard St. and 4989 Ayers St. For more information, call (361) 882-5082 or visit @VicksFamousHamburgers on Facebook. Of course, the best thing to do is drive over there and order a burger!
